Documentary Production
History of Stalybridge
Pre-Production
I first found the idea for my documentary; which was the history of my home town, "Stalybridge".
Once I had put all my research together, I created a presentation on 'Prezi'.
Here's the link.

After creating the presentation of my idea, I then started to create a storyboard.
I also created a script during pre-production for a voice over/presenter.

Stalybridge is a vast growing town since the
industrial revolution. Stalybridge has developed into a well-known town in
greater Manchester, mainly because of its unique history over the past
centuries.
The town wasn’t always called Stalybridge
the original name was ‘Staley’. After the town locals built the first bridge,
in 1707 they decided to name the town Stalybridge.
Stalybridge became a main attraction to
introduce the Industrial Revolution, due to all of the cotton farms spread across
the region.
Once the Industrial Revolution was
introduced in Stalybridge, it brought all of the civilians together to work at
the mills.
The houses that the citizens lived were
called ‘Back to back’ houses. This then created communities all around
Stalybridge, and one of those communities became famous from the poem written
by Samuel Laycock.
Stalybridge became famous in the early 1900’s,
by a well-known song Artist named Jack Judge.

Once I had finished the script and the development of the storyboard, I made a start on Recce Sheets; Risk assessments / Call sheet / Placements of locations on where to film.
This was to prepare for filming and have all the planning organised. Theses were the key points that I had covered.
- Health & Saftey
- Location spotting
- Shooting information
- Lighting information
- Sound information
- Power information
- Possible Hazards
Call sheet includes:
- Producer/Director/Location Manager
- Cast call / Crew call
- Shoot Date/Lunch/Wrap
- Address/Time arrive/ Time Depart of Location
- Transport
- Scene/Time/Set
Producer: Jack Alexander Dale / James Fletcher
Director: Jack Alexander Dale
Location Manager: Jack Alexander Dale

This was the location spotting I created and used for filming, these points represent the placements of the camera shooting.
During Pre-Production I also found Factual images of the Town's factual building. The images I found were out of a old fashion Stalybridge magazine that shows all of the old buildings.
These are some of the Factual images I've used for the Documentary.

Filming
When filming I went a head, with the following planning's that I had made for the documentary.
I filmed in the locations that I had placed in the planning. I also added more footage for seqences and extra footage.
During filming I used a Nikon D3200 camera & a standard bipod.

Post Production
During Post Production I needed to import the film footage into the editing software, the editing software I used was 'Final Cut'. When editing I first needed to render the footage and then started to cut.
I cut out the important footage that I needed including; Cut aways & Interviews. After cutting I then created files (Bins) for the footage so I know where the types of footage are.
After storing the key footages I then started to put together the story of the documentary using the storyboard. After creating the story of the documentary I then started to import music into the documentary, I used three songs in the documentary.
- Moby - God Moving Over the Face of the Waters
- Jack Judge - It's Along Way to Tipperary
- Bob Dylan - The Times They're a Changing
After importing the music, I edited bits of the documentary to make it run smooth including; Music barriers (volmue) and film footage.
Once I had finished the editing I then imported the Voice over which was based of the script I wrote.
I then transported the footage of the documentary into Quick Time.
